It’s time to do some recon for the 2021 Philadelphia Eagles’ next opponent.

If it seems like any of this is familiar, it’s because it is. For the second time in less than 365 days, the Philadelphia Eagles are scheduled to face the San Francisco 49ers during the first month of the NFL’s regular season, and as was the case the last time, this one’s being seen as a litmus test for where the Birds are in terms of their development.

Some of the stage that’s being set looks exactly as it did in Week 4 last season. There are questions for the Niners at quarterback, albeit for different reasons. The Eagles are the underdogs. Both of those scenarios were also the case last October.

There are also some subtle differences. Philadelphia is the home team this time around, and this one’s being played in this weekend’s early window as opposed to the primetime kickoff that we saw on Sunday Night Football the last time these two met. Let’s hope the result is the same.

Philly won their 2020 test versus San Fran. If they do so again, they begin the 2021-2022 campaign with a 2-0 start. With that being said, let’s go behind enemy lines.

For this one, we enlisted the help of Niner Noise editor, expert, and lead writer Peter Panacy, a walking 49ers encyclopedia. We picked his brain and found a few nuggets that Philadelphia Eagles fans would find interesting, including San Fran’s biggest weaknesses.

Buckle up. What follows is some of the results of that conversation.
