We’re a long way from discussing the Philadelphia Eagles‘ first taste of Dallas Cowboys Week and the so-called America’s Team. Seriously, why do people still call them that? This one’s interesting however.

When Philadelphia closes the door on their upcoming matchup with the San Francisco 49ers and begins to prepare for the hated Cowboys, they’ll do so with the knowledge that Jerry Jones’ squad won’t have one of their better players, DeMarcus Lawrence, available.

Buckle up. We have much to discuss.

The Philadelphia Eagles won’t see DeMarcus Lawrence on Sunday Night Football.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, “the Cowboys’ best pass-rusher”, Lawrence is now “out for the better part of the season”. ESPN staff writer Todd Archer later reported that sources told him that Lawrence will miss “six to eight weeks”.

The Philadelphia Eagles’ Week 3 matchup, as you know, requires that they fly south for their first of two annual matchups with their hated rivals. The game is in Arlington, and it’s in primetime on Monday Night Football. The NFL always manages to find a way to put that game on national television, don’t they?

Arguments can be made that Lawrence’s presence in his 13 career appearances versus Philadelphia haven’t been much of a cause for concern thanks, in part, to the fact that the Birds line up with Lane Johnson at right tackle.

Johnson has, more often than not, owned Lawrence when they’ve been matched up versus one another. For his career, in the aforementioned 13 meetings that DeMarcus has been a part of, he’s been a non-factor in Dallas’ pass rush. Try 41 total tackles and two sacks on for size.

Again, we’re a few days away from talking about Dallas. First thing’s first. The Philadelphia Eagles need to get around a game Niners squad.

Lawrence’s injury should give Philly some momentum heading into Week 3 though seeing as how there have been a few instances over the past few years where the Birds have had an advantage in terms of their offensive line versus the Cowboys’ defensive line whenever these two rivals hook up.
