Philadelphia Eagles: Sub-radar MVPs who stepped up to fuel Week 5 victory
Philadelphia Eagles linebacker T.J. Edwards
Eagles third-year linebacker T.J. Edwards never seems to be mentioned as someone that’s good enough to warrant a roster spot, at least not as consistently as he should be.
He went undrafted in 2019. He’s seen as someone who isn’t quick enough or athletic enough to play the position. People have even called him slow.
Philly always seems to be bringing someone else in to insert on the depth chart ahead of him. People don’t buy his jersey or talk about his Madden rating, but T.J. Edwards makes plays.
That includes the special teams play of the Eagles season so far, a blocked punt late in the fourth quarter of a game in Charlotte that set the Birds up with a chance to score the go-ahead touchdown in Week 5.
He sure didn’t look slow on that one.
Here are the facts. Philly’s offense needed a whole heck of a lot of help to score in this one. Points and yardage were at a premium all afternoon. If not for some special teams heroics, who knows how this one would have turned out.
If Philly’s pinned back for that potential go-ahead drive in quarter number four, would they have scored? Who knows… Fortunately, we didn’t have to find out.
