Philadelphia Eagles: Sub-radar MVPs who stepped up to fuel Week 5 victory
Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Genard Avery
We give them all types of you know what when they don’t carry their weight or they underperform. We have to give them their flowers when they show and prove. It’s only fair.
While some of you had probably gotten to a point where Genard Avery wasn’t someone that you routinely thought about when you .heard this team’s name mentioned, Philly’s coaches were looking for ways to get him more involved in Week 5.
He was, most definitely, involved in this one.
With a 36-snap opportunity, Avery tied Marcus Epps for the Eagles’ second-highest tackle total. In all, he stuck his head in on eight stops, including four tackles of the solo variety and a very timely tackle for a loss in the final stanza.
Kudos are definitely in order for Marcus Epps who had a fairly decent day and Davion Taylor, who seems to be figuring things out. We’ve been waiting on Avery to pop for a while though, and even though he’s made some noise here and there and even though this wasn’t an earth-shattering performance, it can be argued that this game was one of his better performances as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.
