Though none of us have been able to figure out the Howie Roseman theory of roster building, there’s one thing that we’re certain of and have been certain of for a while. The Philadelphia Eagles‘ plan on defense is to build from the inside out, particularly by strengthening the defensive tackle position.

Quarterbacks, whether experienced or young, despise immediate pressure up the middle, and they’ve been getting a lot of that recently with the emergence of Javon Hargrave.

How good can this guy be? As of right now, it appears that the sky is the limit.

We’re calling for an All-Pro season from Javon Hargrave.

Though none of us probably want to admit this now, Philly’s addition of Javon Hargrave during the 2020 NFL offseason wasn’t one that we were totally pumped about. The Eagles, as they seemingly do every season, had a relatively bare cupboard at the wide receiver, running back, linebacker, and cornerback position.

Why sign Hargrave? Heck, arguments could be made that the defensive tackle position was one of the more well-stocked positions on the roster, so when the Birds opened the purse to write a three-year, $39 million check, the immediate reaction was that money should have been spent elsewhere.

Sometimes, it’s good to be wrong because the combination of bad coaching, injuries, and the time it takes to learn a new scheme seemed to stifle Hargrave early, but year two has been a joy to watch.

Hargrave is healthy. He’s on fire to start the season, and regardless of what happens with the remainder of the Eagles march through the 2021-2022 regular season, if Hargrave continues on the path that he’s on, we might end the year by discussing one of the better seasons by any defensive linemen that we’ve seen in a while.

Five weeks of the longest season in league history are in the books, and Javon Hargrave has added 27 total tackles (that includes seven for a loss of yardage), six sacks, and a forced fumble have been added to this young man’s resume. If he continues on the path that he’s on, he’ll make his first Pro Bowl, and dare we say it? Javon Hargrave is on his way to an All-Pro season.

Write it down. There was no hesitation on our end when we made the statement.
