The Philadelphia Eagles coaches are being outclassed weekly.

The Eagles’ coaches seemingly have a lack of situational awareness, and it’s costing them games. That was especially the case in Week 6. The Birds had a chance to squeak out a win over an excellent Bucs team, and thanks to bone-headed time management and play-calling, Tampa Bay was able to bleed every second off of the clock.

Let’s break it down, shall we? After the Eagles scored to cut the margin to a six-point game, the Bucs were driving down the field, but the Iggles defense could have gotten the ball back for its offense had they just stayed aggressive. Instead, rather than sending the house or playing man coverage, defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon played his soft-shell zone coverage, which allowed Tampa Bay to convert the first down easily.

Following that bad call, Sirianni took two timeouts to help conserve some time. Bucs quarterback Tom Brady once again, later in the drive, was faced with a 3rd down. This one only requires that he gain one yard, and instead of crowding the box to defend the run play, the Eagles dropped into coverage. Tampa converted. Sirianni used his last time out instead of waiting for the two-minute warning.

Shortly after that, the Bucs were in the victory formation. Now, we have to be fair. Coaches, especially the young ones, will have these issues, but this was on full display of being outclassed, and ultimately Philly’s coaches should engage in some self-reflection.
