Jalen Hurts report card vs. Raiders: Don’t be fooled by statistics
If you didn’t see Week 7’s game, Jalen Hurts’ final stats might mislead you.
At one stretch of the Philadelphia Eagles‘ horrific-looking loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7, the Silver and Black scored 30 points and the Birds ran seven offensive snaps. Philly’s defense can’t get off the field. Philly’s offense can’t stay on the field, and questions continue about whether or not Jalen Hurts is the man to lead them into the future.
Games like the Eagles’ most recent makes it extremely difficult to make statements one way or the other. Now, that isn’t a statement that’s made to defend him or criticize him. Hurts has had his moments, and he’s looked, at times, like his most recent snap was his first.
In Week 7, he lost Miles Sanders early, DeVonta Smith dropped three passes, and the offensive line let him down, but you can also argue that every quarterback deals with injuries to teammates, some of DeVonta’s drops were the result of a bad toss, and the O-line needs balance as much as the rest of the offensive unit. You have to let those guys fire off of the ball sometimes and hit people to get them into a groove.
Here are Hurts’ final numbers: 18 completions on 34 passing attempts, 236 yards passing, two passing touchdowns, and an additional 61 yards on 13 carries. If you didn’t see the game and you saw that, you might argue that, yeah, he could have completed a few more passes but he had a good game.
There’s a phrase that goes like this. People lie and numbers don’t, but that may not be the case for his Week 7 performance. Let’s do a deeper dive into his performance.
