Philadelphia Eagles are placing Miles Sanders on injured reserve
Well, there was hope as we moved through the week leading up to the Philadelphia Eagles‘ game versus the Detroit Lions in Week 8. After watching Miles Sanders get carted off of the field in Las Vegas versus the Raiders, there weren’t many that thought he’d be back seven days later to suit up for a football game. The news is still worse than we thought though.
According to Ian Rapoport, following a second straight day in which Sanders didn’t participate in practice, things are worse than we thought. Philly will indeed place Sanders on the team’s injured reserve.
Take a look.
This follows a previous report by Derrick Gunn that Sanders would miss “two to three weeks”.
Here’s what happens next for the Philadelphia Eagles.
There is some good news to report here. Sanders will, more than likely, find his way into the short-term IR. That means Philadelphia is set to be without him until Week 11, but he’ll be able to return upon his eligibility. In short, this isn’t a season-ending injury, and if there’s any chance that the Eagles turn their season around and find themselves in a playoff push late, Miles will be around to help spearhead his team into the postseason.
Yeah right. We’re joking of course. There’s no way that this team is getting to the playoffs. Sanders remains optimistic though as this tweet suggests.
In Sanders’ absence, at the time of this story being published, the Eagles have two other running backs on the active roster, rookie Kenneth Gainwell and a more than capable back that this coaching staff appears to despise, Boston Scott.
Jordan Howard and Jason Huntley sit on the practice squad. There are rumors of Howard’s promotion from the scout team to the active roster. Let’s hope that they are false. Howard, since his injury in 2019 hasn’t been the same player.
He’s 26. He turns 27 in November, but he runs like he’s ten years older than that. If he’s the replacement, don’t get too excited. That definitely won’t help the Eagles running game, but there’s a bright side in all of this. Philadelphia doesn’t run the ball anyway.
