Philadelphia Eagles: 5 Teams who can partner in trade for Derek Barnett
The Philadelphia Eagles may have a trade partner in Jacksonville.
Cap space: $27.8 million
It wasn’t that long ago that the Jacksonville Jaguars were nicknamed ‘Sacksonville’. Sure, that seems like it was ages ago, and if you hadn’t seen it for yourselves, you might think that someone was lying to you. Still, after a very good defense saw its best players leave, one right after the other, the Jags haven’t been able to recreate that magic ever since.
The blueprint for recapturing the magic of the 2017 season remains in the DNA of every NFL team though. Find your franchise quarterback (Jacksonville has done that with Trevor Lawrence). Get your quarterback a running game. Build a defense that has his back. It would help a whole lot if that defense can get to the other team’s quarterback.
You’ll win a lot of football games if you do that.
The Jaguars have some good players working in the trenches on the defensive side of the ball (Josh Allen, Adam Gotsis, Dawuane Smoot), but there’s an old saying. Teams can never have too many pass rushers.
Adding Derek Barnett to a team that plays in the AFC with some great quarterbacks will help the Jaguars make some noise going forward. Jacksonville also has the cap space to sign him with $27.8 million to the good according to Spotrac. Might Philly find a trade partner in the Jags?
