Does Jalen Hurts have an opportunity to upstage Jared Goff in Week 8?

Long before the Philadelphia Eagles ever thought about whether or not Jalen Hurts was the right man for the job as Philly’s QB1, they held the second-overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft. Carson Wentz was the selection as the Los Angeles Rams went with Jared Goff.

Things haven’t gone the way that either man would have liked (and Wentz is in Indy now). Still, if you had no clue who Jared Goff was and he walked into any room that you were in, your first thought would probably be that he has to be some sort of professional athlete.

He’s six-foot-four, 217 pounds, and solid. He was a First-team All-Pac-12 nod in 2015. He’s a two-time Pro Bowl nod. Hard times have come, but don’t let that fool you. He’s completely capable of toppling this Eagles team.

Jalen Hurts will look to thwart those efforts. A Heisman Finalist and First-Team All-Big 12 nod in 2019 and the SEC Offensive Player of the Year in 2016 (as well as a College Football Playoff National Champion and Sugar Bowl Offensive MVP in 2017), Hurts’ first 11 starts in the NFL make all of that seem like it was longer ago than it was.

Hurts is six-foot-one and 223 pounds but sturdy. He’s been relatively injury-free throughout his career. We know he’s mentally and physically tough. The questions are about whether or not he’s a legitimate NFL starting quarterback. The result of this game will have a huge impact on opinions one way or another.
