We’re still learning a lot about the Philadelphia Eagles.

With a 17-game, 18-week NFL season, the midpoint of the marathon comes later than we’ve gotten used to. From a fan’s standpoint, however, it’s hard to argue with more football. The Philadelphia Eagles, despite winning in Week 8, are struggling.

They’ve put five games in the loss column after eight weeks. They’re four games behind the Dallas Cowboys in the divisional race, but with their upcoming schedule, they may be able to stack wins late.

Sure, we were told that this is a throwaway season, a rebuilding year. 2021 was billed, in many circles, as a season-long audition by Jalen Hurts for the role of being this team’s franchise quarterback. Here we are, again almost halfway through the process, and we don’t know anything more about Hurts than we did in August.

We know he’s mature. We know he’s a great leader. No one questioned his work ethic, his dedication, or the fact that, at this point of his career, that he’s a better runner of the football than a passer.

Still, with everything that we knew about this team coming into 2021, there are lessons that we’re being taught weekly. Here are three things that stick out about what we saw in Week 8’s victory over the Detroit Lions.
