Typically, during the course of a week, you’re almost certain to hear from Fletcher Cox. He’s one of the Philadelphia Eagles team captains, and he’s often made available when the players speak with members of the media ahead of various practices and after games.

As you’re well aware, he’s also been the subject of several conversations that we normally wouldn’t have and mention his name. It’s year ten of what’s sure to be a career that ends in football immortality once he’s inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. The discussions about Cox, so far, have been different this time around though.

Instead of talking about what might be a seventh Pro Bowl nod since his arrival in 2012, we’re talking about his lack of production, whether or not he still has a motor, and if we’re on the downside of what’s been a phenomenal career.

He’s even been the subject of trade talks. Several NFL teams called Philly to inquire about his services, but once the NFL’s trade deadline had come and gone, none of the smoke led us to any fires. He’s still an Eagle.

Fletcher Cox responds to every question that we’ve been asking.

As mentioned earlier, Fletcher Cox is a mainstay in those weekly player sitdowns with the media, but we hadn’t heard from him since the aforementioned trade deadline. A little river 48 hours from the Eagles’ ninth game of the season, we got our chance though.

Cox seemed no worse for wear after a tough week, and as you might imagine, it didn’t take long before he was asked about the trade rumors.

"There were some teams (that were) interested in me. The most important part about it is they (the Philadelphia Eagles) wanted me here, and I wanted to be here. I’m happy to be here, and I’m looking forward to going out and in The Linc again on Sunday… You can’t do nothing but respect this organization for (keeping me updated about what was going on behind the scenes).  Howie (Roseman) and Nick (Sirianni) did a good job of communicating with (his agent Todd France) and me, and at the end of the day, I’m still an Eagle, so I’m ready to go play on Sunday."

As you might imagine, there were attempts to dig a little deeper. Fletch would have none of that however.

“(It’s) like I said. Forever Philly. I’ve been here for ten years, and I’m happy to be here… So, if y’all want to talk about the Chargers, let’s close that door and move on”.

Trending. Philly doesn't want to be a running team. light

There isn’t a Birds fan in the Delaware Valley or anywhere else on Planet Earth that won’t agree with that one. Philadelphia has a huge opportunity versus a very good L.A. Chargers team in Week 9. Fletcher Cox is still an Eagle! Let’s see if he can begin turning his season around in Week 9.
