Philadelphia Eagles: Regrading Howie Roseman’s 2018 draft class
Avonte Maddox might be in line for an extension from the Philadelphia Eagles.
Calling Avonte Maddox‘s first four seasons in the National Football League a roller-coaster ride might be a bit of an understatement. He began his career playing on special teams from Week 1 to Week 3 of the 2018 season but saw 20 defensive snaps in Week 4, scoring his first interception versus Marcus Mariota.
Smith would be inactive from Week 12 to Week 14 of his rookie year but bounced back nicely. In his first game back, he picked off another pass in Week 15, an upset win over the Los Angeles Rams in primetime.
He’s been embarrassed when playing on the outside in coverage from time to time, carted off of the field in 2019 with what appeared to be a serious head injury, and he spent time in the loneliest place a player can sit, the injured reserve.
After being inactive for three games in 2020 early (weeks four through six), he spent the final three games of the campaign on the team’s IR.
Yes, it’s been quite the roller-coaster ride, but he’s been a joy to watch in 2021. He’s settled in nicely as the team’s slot corner in Jonathan Gannon’s defense. As a matter of fact, he’s been so good that words like ‘extension’ are being thrown around with relative frequency. Grade: B-
