Philadelphia Eagles legend DeSean Jackson gets one more chance
Who would have known, when we watched Michael Vick uncork one on the first play of the game in what would later be deemed the Monday Night Massacre, the Philadelphia Eagles manhandling of the Washington Football Team back in 2010, that the guy on the receiving end of that play would wind up being a journeyman? Such is life for DeSean Jackson.
Perhaps it had to happen at some point, but for the greatest deep threat in the history of the National Football League, he’s finally lost a step, ultimately losing a foot race to a man who, at some point, catches up with everyone, Father Time.
Prior to a failed comeback attempt in 2019, one that would stretch into the 2020 season, DeSean spent the first six seasons of his professional career in the City of Brotherly Love (2008-2013) before a three-year stint in Washington (2014-2016) and a two-year run in Tampa Bay with the Buccaneers (2017-2018) eventually brought him home.
In the end, the welcome-home party would end after its first game. D-Jax caught two 50-plus-yard bombs in the 2019 season opener from Carson Wentz, but injuries railroaded the victory tour.
He signed with the Los Angeles Rams on March 21st, and in Week 3, added a 75-yard touchdown bomb from Matthew Stafford to his resume, but he was released, upon his request, by L.A. on November 2nd. Now, it appears that he’s been granted one last chance.
Philadelphia Eagles legend DeSean Jackson signs with the Raiders.
According to Josina Anderson, DeSean Jackson reached out to her shortly before halftime of Philly’s game with the L.A. Chargers to inform her that he’s headed to the Las Vegas Raiders. Somewhere, Al Davis is smiling in football heaven.
Mark Davis, Al’s baby boy, watched his father sign a bunch of guys simply because they were faster than everyone else. Sometimes, they could play. Sometimes, they couldn’t, but Al sure loved speed, didn’t he?
Maybe the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Maybe the Raiders felt void of a deep threat following their loss to one of the Eagles’ most hated rivals, the New York Giants. Then again, Vegas could be feeling as though they’ve lost their way with all of the controversies that they’ve faced over the past few weeks.
Whatever the case, DeSean will wear the silver and black now. At 34 years of age (he turns 35 on December 1st), this has to be his final chance to prove there’s still some tread left on the tire.
