Possible replacements for Nick Sirianni: Bill Cowher (the dream hire)

How many of you wouldn’t sign up for bringing Bill Cowher in as Philadelphia’s head coach right now? If you’re on the fence, let’s talk for a few ticks.

Picture that familiar scowl and the no-nonsense attitude on the Eagles’ sideline. Sure, the game has changed a lot since he last led a team onto the field for a football game. You’d also have to pull him off of his throne at CBS, but one can never say never, especially someone that loves a football team and is desperate to see it win again.

Bill Cowher led the Pittsburgh Steelers for 15 seasons but hasn’t coached a game in 15 years either. He seems pretty happy with what he’s doing now. Why would he ever leave his current gig to have his every move picked apart by the City of Brotherly Love and the fans and media that cover the team that plays there?

This also goes against everything that Jeffrey Lurie stands on. He just doesn’t hire guys who have already been NFL head coaches before. If he’s willing to make an exception, however, a Super Bowl winner who’s led his team to football’s biggest game twice is a nice option.

Bill Cowher had three losing seasons in his Hall-of-Fame career. He won over 62 percent of his regular-season games and notched a 12-9 record in the postseason. Maybe the game has passed him by, but we’re ready to take the leap of faith if you are.

Regardless of whether or not you’d sign on for hiring Cowher, here’s something to chew on. He’s, no doubt, better than the guys the Eagles have placed on their radars before. Remember, Philadelphia hired Chip Kelly. They were turned down by Adam Gase, and from what we heard, they were “blown away” by Nick Sirianni’s interview.

Bringing in a man with six division titles and a bust in Canton, Ohio sure sounds like a good idea after all of that.
