Darius Slay joins Odell Beckham Jr. recruitment trail with interesting tactic
As a Philadelphia Eagles loss to the Los Angeles Chargers bleeds over into Week 10’s preparation with a relatively unfamiliar opponent, the Denver Broncos, much of the news surrounding the Birds centers around the roster, injuries (Darius Slay‘s hamstring for example) the coaching, and players that the team could add to get better.
You’ve no doubt seen this, but typically when there are disgruntled players, rumors of trades, or available free agents that are attractive, the Eagles are somehow connected in a story about that player’s acquisition.
Just take a look around the web when you have a moment. One of the hot topics on the table involves theories about Odell Beckham Jr. joining Philadelphia’s roster, and it appears that one of this team’s best players on defense is joining the recruitment trail.
Darius Slay uses a divisional rival’s name to grab Odell Beckham Jr’s attention.
For Odell Beckham Jr., his nightmare stay in Cleveland with the Brows is over. In three seasons, he appeared in 29 games with 28 starts, but let’s put it this way. When his career is over and everyone looks at what he accomplished as a pro, there won’t be many plays that he made for the Browns in his career highlight reel.
OBJ currently sits on the waiver wire, and teams have until Monday to place a claim on him. Here’s a look at the current order. Thank Ari Meirov and his Twitter account for this one.
It now appears that Darius Slay is joining the recruitment trail. This one’s kind of interesting:
As you know, OBJ spent the first five seasons of his NFL career in the Big Apple playing for the New York Giants. In nine games versus the Philadelphia Eagles, the G-Men went 1-8 with Beckham on the roster, but there is a chance, even if it’s a small one, that Eagles vice president/general manager Howie Roseman is paying attention to the aforementioned waiver wire.
Players never seem to want to admit to this, but there’s always that added motivation when they play a team that lets them walk. Beckham and the Giants’ divorce had a little angst involved, and OBJ’s addition to the Eagles roster would mean he gets the chance to beat up on Big Blue twice annually.
Again, it’s a very interesting theory. There’s a saying that goes “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”. The Birds and Odell Bekham Jr. are no longer rivals, but for an Eagles team that could use help at the wide receiver position, this has to be an option that they’re exploring even if OBJ gets hurt more often than he used to.
