The Philadelphia Eagles improve the secondary and O-line on Round 1 as well.

Round 1, Pick 7

There have been connections between Derek Stingley and the Philadelphia Eagles since the end of the 2021 Draft. After the Eagles passed on taking a cornerback in the early stages of the draft last year, heads turned to Stingley, arguably the top cornerback in the class.

At six-foot-one and 195 pounds, he has the size the Birds need in the defensive backfield. Currently, Tay Gowan is the only cornerback over six-foot-tall on the roster.

While Stingley hasn’t performed as well stat-wise, that is primarily because teams refuse to target him. His freshman year, he recorded 6 interceptions and 1 forced fumble. It’s a simple decision for the franchise. If Stingley is available at pick 7, he is a must-have.

You read that correctly. No quarterback was taken in the first round. Jalen Hurts gets the nod for another season as none of the guys expected to go in Round 1 look like franchise quarterbacks.

The Eagles instead select offensive guard Kenyon Green from Texas A&M, the evident successor for the aging and often-injured Brandon Brooks.

Green is six-foot-four and 325 pounds, but don’t let that fool you. He is fast for an offensive lineman. He also comes from a school that is known for developing offensive linemen into superstars.

Green has a chance to be one of the best prospects in recent years. This isn’t the sexiest pick, but pairing Green with Dickerson and Mailata is a very good start to restoring an offensive line that is aging quickly and in danger of declining.
