Howie Roseman traveling to see two Eagles QB prospects in person
Things haven’t quite reached the level of finger-pointing at the NovaCare Complex, but if someone started throwing the phrase around, no one would blame them, especially if said fingers were pointed at the Philadelphia Eagles vice president/general manager Howie Roseman. Things are getting hot in South Philly.
It wasn’t that long ago when we were talking about Fletcher Cox taking the podium post-game and publicly expressing his frustration with his role in the Eagles defense, and that wasn’t an isolated incident either. Not even three weeks after that happened, Javon Hargrave made a similar statement when the players met with the Philly media immediately following another crushing loss, this one to the Los Angeles Chargers.
It’s easy to look around and question who may or may not be doing their job when the losses pile up. Through nine-plus weeks of the 2021-2021 NFL season, we’ve seen blame, from one direction or another, thrown at Jeffrey Lurie, Nick Sirianni, and Jonathan Gannon.
We’ve seen players take the heat, especially Jalen Hurts, but that should be expected. As you know, the quarterback is often the lightning rod when things go wrong. We’ve also seen a few shots, both directly and indirectly, thrown at the vice president/general manager, Howie Roseman, and that’s where the majority of the blame should fall.
The players on this team and who the coaches are, all of that falls on the shoulders of Roseman, but here’s where all of these roads intersect. The public doesn’t have the power to remove Lurie from office, nor can they fire anyone else. Still, the approval rating is dropping for Philadelphia’s chairman and CEO as it is with Gannon, and Roseman, not to mention that it’s about 50/50 for Hurts and Sirianni, and even with all of that being said, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone that wants Howie to stick around past 2021.
It doesn’t seem like the Birds would blow this up after a single season, but in the court of public opinion, it’s time to warm a few seats. That includes QB1’s chair, so what should we take from Howie Roseman making a road trip in Week 11 of the college football season?
Howie Roseman will travel to see two quarterback prospects in person.
Here’s something of note. According to Johnny McGonigal of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Heinz Field’s press box will be crowded on Thursday, November 11th for the Pittsburgh Panthers and North Carolina Tar Heels tussle. 38 NFL scouts/executives are scheduled to be in attendance.
They’ll be there to see two prospects who are being labeled as two of the best quarterbacks that NCAA football has to offer the pro game in the 2022 NFL Draft, UNC’s Sam Howell and Pitt’s Kenny Pickett.
Five of those 38 attendees with ties to pro franchises are general managers: Roseman (someone you all know), Kevin Colbert of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mike Mayock of the Las Vegas Raiders, George Paton of the Denver Broncos, and Rick Spielman of the Minnesota Vikings.
So, here’s where the rubber meets the road. Do we throw Howie’s attendance in the category of due diligence or the continued search for the Eagles’ franchise quarterback? This could mean nothing. Then again, it could mean everything, but here’s where we can all find some common ground in our theories. Howie isn’t at this game if he’s one-hundred percent sold on Jalen Hurts.
