For most of the football world, outside of the contingent that actually pays attention to what the New York Jets are doing, their most-recent roster move may have come and gone without causing a major blip on the NFL’s radar. After all, they are 2-7 on the season. The Philadelphia Eagles, on the other hand, no doubt saw what happened and shared a few high fives at the NovaCare Complex.

New Jersey’s own Joe Flacco, a man that grew up an Eagles fan, played his prep football at Audubon High School, and then, cut his teeth as a member of the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens’ program at the collegiate level, recently spent some time with the Birds before they cashed in with an October 25th trade that sent him back to the Jets for a second stint.

Flacco, in 2020, made four starts for the Jets, posting an 0-4 record in the process.

As most of you know, the Eagles received a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft for making the move. What you may not know is we may be on the way to seeing that condition being met. Joe Flacco will start for the New York Jets in Week 11, and for the Birds, that means that business has picked up.

The Philadelphia Eagles may turn that sixth-round selection to a fifth.

In order for the Philadelphia Eagles’ sixth-round selection that they received for Joe Flacco to become a fifth, as mentioned earlier, there are conditions.

Currently, New York has two selections in the sixth round, and this one would be the least favorable, but if Flacco plays more than 50 percent of the snaps in four of the New York Jets’ games this season, Philly earns a fifth-round selection.

People don’t normally get fired up over third-day draft choices, but if they were to receive a fifth-rounder by only giving up Flacco, that has to be seen as a win. Seeing as how Zach Wilson is injured and Mike White stunk up the joint after playing exceptionally well in his first start, an extended look at Flacco doesn’t seem like an impossibility. Keep your fingers crossed.
