Eagles star Darius Slay puts his stamp on another Pro Bowl nod
Well, they don’t call him Big Play for no reason. During a midweek press conference leading up to the Philadelphia Eagles Week 11 game versus the New Orleans Saints, Darius Slay didn’t hesitate or stutter. He looked dead at the media and told him that he was proud of the fact that he had just won NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors, but he also felt like he should have been given the award twice.
If you’ll remember, he notched two picks in Week 5 versus the Carolina Panthers that helped Philadelphia stay in the game when the offense wasn’t doing much. Philly wouldn’t have won that game without him.
The NFL chose to give the award that week to Marshon Lattimore following a game in which he tallied six pass breakups. Ironically, Lattimore was on the visiting sideline at Lincoln Financial Field. He and his teammates had a front-row seat as Slay again showed us why he’s had the nickname Big Play since he was patrolling the secondary for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Darius Slay just put a stamp on another Pro Bowl nod.
What do you say? Certain things need no description. With the Saints trailing the Birds by a 20-7 margin with a little over 30 seconds remaining in the first half, Trevor Siemian who had avoided throwing in Slay’s direction for most of the first half decided to challenge him.
That was a bad idea. Take a look.
Slay now has three interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and two defensive touchdowns on the season, and as a result, Big Play Slay may have put a stamp on another Pro Bowl nod. It will be the fourth time that he’s been added to the NFC’s roster.
Slay now has three interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and two defensive touchdowns on the season, proving again that he’s one of the NFL’s best defensive players, but, in the short term, here’s where we stand.
If Darius Slay doesn’t earn NFC Defensive Player of the Week honors after the second pick-six of his career may have closed the door on the New Orleans Saints, there needs to be some sort of formal investigation.
