54. . . . Josh Sweat, defensive end. 4. player

Eagles defensive end Josh Sweat

Part of Howie Roseman’s tenure can’t be discussed without bringing up the bad contracts and extensions. It’s just a part of the story.

He’s been known to open the purse and spend frivolously on guys who are way past the prime because he’s grown an attachment to them over the years, There have also been times when he’s made the mistake of getting overly excited about what someone has done and he, well, opens the purse and spends frivolously on a guy that still has much to prove when he could have continued the evaluation process for a few more months.

We’ve seen Howie honor a fifth-year option on Derek Barnett and get himself in a bind. We’ve seen Howie be the only person that couldn’t figure out that Brandon Brooks, although a great player in his prime is now past said prime.

We get the Josh Sweat extension though. Barnett is probably out of here as is Brandon Graham. Philly needs pass rushers, and Sweat is the best young pass rusher on the team outside of Javon Hargrave. Sweat is struggling though, a before you know it, if he doesn’t improve, you’ll hear questions asked about whether or not his extension was handed out too early.

We’ve got 94’s back. He’ll be fine. Perhaps he isn’t being utilized correctly or he needs to continue to develop in Jonathan Gannon’s scheme, but we know Josh Sweat can play. That’s been proven. He’s going to be very good for a very long time.
