5 oldest NFL players to ever wear a Philadelphia Eagles uniform
Jeff Garcia, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback (2009)
Age: 39 years, 7.1 months
Even had Jeff Garcia not qualified, we would have found a way to place him on the list as an honorable mention. In 2006, after a career that began with five seasons in Canada as a member of the Calgary Stampeders and another five in San Francisco with the 49ers, Jeff’s football life was in a state of flux.
Two frustrating seasons, one with the Cleveland Browns and another with the Detroit Lions led him back to free agency, and on March 15th of 2006, the Birds signed Garcia to a one-year deal as insurance for Donovan McNabb in case there was any injury to the franchise QB.
You guessed it! McNabb got hurt. How did Jeff do in his absence? He went 5-1 down the stretch, leading the Philadelphia Eagles to five straight wins in the final five games in the process. That earned them a playoff berth.
They won their first game versus the hated New York Giants but would ultimately lose in the Divisional Round to the New Orleans Saints. Even though they didn’t get the result they wanted, Garcia’s place in Eagles lore was secure. He even found himself back on the roster in 2009 where he’d suit up and tally three rushes for -2 yards versus the Kansas City Chiefs on September 27th of 2009. He was 39 years and seven months old at the time.
