Eagles recent implosion begs three questions ahead of matchup with Jets
By Hunter Doyle
Here are three random thoughts following an inexcusable Eagles loss.
The Philadelphia Eagles had every opportunity to beat the New York Giants in Week 12. It was right there for the taking.
Good teams find ways to win these types of games, especially in the midst of a Wild Card race. This team has no one to blame but themselves in what was one of their ugliest offensive performances of the entire season.
The New York Giants didn’t do anything special on either side of the ball. Sure, they pulled a few tricks out of their sleeve with a flea-flicker y-delay screen at one point, but overall, the Eagles just beat themselves.
Here are a few things to mull over as Philly prepares for a game versus the Jets.
1. Why did the Eagles offense make the Giants’ defense look better than it is?
Jalen Hurts had opportunities to hit open receivers but either hesitated to throw the ball or threw it inaccurately. At other times, he just made blatantly bad decisions that cost the Eagles big time.
The second interception at the goal line is a pass that cannot be thrown. There is no excuse for that. It has to be thrown out of the endzone or out of bounds.
It also looked like he could have had a shot at Quez Watkins or Dallas Goedert earlier in the progression. If Hurts doesn’t turn the ball over, the Birds could have gotten three points off of an easy field goal attempt. If not, Nick Sirianni can be more aggressive and take another shot at a touchdown on fourth and goal. Jalen Hurts made too many mistakes and should share the bulk of the blame for this one.
