By the time the 2021 Philadelphia Eagles regular-season ends, we may be talking about their special teams coordinator, Michael Clay, as someone the City of Brotherly Love is looking at for one of their seats on Philly’s city council. He’s turned the Birds’ special team unit into a weapon. They’ve shifted momentum by blocking punts and field goals. Jake Elliott is red hot and enjoying a career year.

That most certainly wasn’t the case this time last season. Elliott was one of the most frustrating players on this team. No one trusted him, and let’s be honest, every time he lined up to attempt anything, no one felt like he wasn’t going to miss.

But, that was then, and this is now! 2021 has been a career year.

The hits keep coming for Jake Elliott in 2021.

The Eagles, following a Week 12 loss to the hated New York Giants still managed to earn one win ahead of their second-straight game at MetLife Stadium in Week 13 versus the Jets. Jake Elliott has been named the NFC’s Special Teams Player of the Month.

He was automatic in November… literally, connecting on all 19 of his kick attempts. He converted all eight of his field-goal attempts and all 11 of his extra points. In two games, he scored 12 points or more, and his 16 points in the Eagles’ Week 11 win over the New Orleans Saints is a personal best.

Michael Clay had this to say in a recent presser: “They’ve been fantastic and kudos to all three of those guys. (They’re) just working hand and hand and they have been operating like a well-oiled machine. Elliott will look to continue the hot streak versus the New York Jets. The Eagles will no doubt have plenty of scoring opportunities in that one.

Again, Clay has to take a lot of the credit for his guys’ success. All that’s left now is to stop making excuses for his kick and punt returner and get someone else back there. That’s all his unit seems to be missing. That’s a story for another day though.
