The Eagles may have a more talented passer than Jalen Hurts on the roster.

This offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles traded a conditional 6th-round pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars for quarterback Gardner Minshew. We haven’t seen him on the field much in a game that counts, but ever since the Birds traded Joe Flacco to the Jets, Minshew has been the unquestioned backup

So far, Gardner has attempted two passes, both completions in mop-up duty versus the Lions in Week 8. The result was 11 yards. That isn’t anything special, but we all know that Minshew was a former starter in this league and is fully capable of handling that role again if need be.

He was in an active competition with Trevor Lawrence this offseason before being traded, with coach Urban Meyer calling him ‘a warrior’. Minshew also came to Philly with a bit of fanfare.

He’s loved in Jacksonville for his character. The Eagles are already well aware of his talent, and it’s that type of talent that can raise eyebrows and the hopes of an entire fanbase and team.

Minshew won’t be playing in Week 13 either as it’s already been established that Hurts will play. Still, the Eagles have the comfort of knowing that they have a competent backup that can step in and play meaningful snaps if something were to happen, and if he ever gets his shot and a little of that ‘Minshew Magic’ was to resurface, the Eagles could experience a changing of the guard at the quarterback position.
