Eagles star Darius Slay issues a call to action via Twitter

When the Philadelphia Eagles entered the 2020 offseason in need of help at the cornerback position, many thought their play would be signing one of the top two cornerbacks in free agency’s pool, Byron Jones or James Bradberry. That didn’t happen. Jones wound up in Miami with the Dolphins. Bradberry wound up with a rival, the New York Giants. Somehow, after all of that, the Eagles still wound up with Darius Slay in one of their better offseason moves of recent memory.

Vice president/general manager Howie Roseman has let the Eagles and their fans down more often than we’d like to remember, but he hit a grand-slam home run with that one. What’s even more interesting was no one saw the move coming before it happened. Slay wasn’t even a free agent that year.

Philly sent a third-round and fifth-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft to the Detroit Lions on March 20th of 2020 in exchange for Slay’s services, and Big Play Slay signed a new three-year deal the next day worth $50 million with $30 million of that being guaranteed.

Things were touch and go in 2020, but in 2021, he’s been phenomenal. Even all-stars need help sometimes though, and recently, Philly’s all-world corner asked for some assistance.

Darius Slay needs your help!

After 12 weeks of the 2021-2022 NFL season, there can be no reasonable argument that can be made for why Darius Slay wouldn’t be voted to the next Pro Bowl, other than the fact that fans just took for granted that he’d be there anyway and didn’t vote for him.

Fans are hitting the polls as we speak, but as of December’s first Friday, the Eagles star wasn’t among the top four cornerbacks leading the way in terms of votes. As you might imagine, Big Play is aware, and now, he’s taken to his Twitter account to issue a call to action.

During seven seasons in Detroit as a member of the Lions, Slay earned three straight trips to the NFL’s all-star game (2017-2019). That includes the 2017 season when he was the league’s co-leader in interceptions and a First-team All-Pro.

Still, as good as he was during that season, the argument can be made that 2021’s regular-season campaign has been his best. He seems to do phenomenal things constantly including a four-week stretch from Week 8 to Week 11 where he was, in short, on fire. Just look at some of the highlights.

Call it what you want, but from where we’re sitting that looks like a Pro Bowl cornerback to us. Darius Slay most certainly has our vote. We hope that he has yours as well. He deserves it after what’s been an amazing season that still has five games remaining.
