Jason Kelce earns Eagles nomination as NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year
If Family Feud ever featured a category for ‘men who will never have to buy a beer in the City of Brotherly Love again’, the survey would tell you the top answer is Jason Kelce. A long-time fan-favorite in the Philadelphia Eagles organization and the author of the greatest speech in the history of victory parades, it’s hard to imagine that a man who truly has a Pro Football Hall of Fame argument was once a sixth-round draft choice that everyone thought was too small to play center in the NFL.
That alone should tell you that the scouting process and draft process aren’t exact sciences. Jason Kelce’s career has expanded to areas that few players outside of Malcolm Jenkins know about. They’re the NFL’s version of Iron Man. They just don’t come off of the field.
Since 2013, Jason has played 94 percent of the offensive snaps, and in 2015, 2016, 2019, and 2020, he played 100 percent of the snaps (he sat out of Week 17’s game in 2017 as the Eagles prepared for a Super Bowl run or he would have played 100 percent of the snaps that season too).
What Jason Kelce has done on the field is amazing, but it’s only a portion of the reason why we’ve grown to love him so much. The Eagles are littered with characters who are full of character, and Jason Kelce is the epitome of that. Recently, he received an amazing honor.
Jason Kelce earns the Eagles nomination for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.
Good news comes during the bye week. According to an official team announcement, Jason Kelce earns the Philadelphia Eagles nomination for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award thanks to his work with not only the Eagles Autism Foundation but his other charitable efforts as well.
Here’s a quote:
"It’s good to know that people think that I’ve been a good human being and done things the right way, giving back to the community, and being a good teammate… You just try to be the best person you can be and help out where you can and care about other people. I like to think that people think that I care about what they do and who they are and know that if they ever need something, I’m a person they can call and count on to help them out and listen or be there for them in any way I can."
He’s definitely got our vote. Guys like Jason Kelce make the Eagles an easy team to cheer for.
It’s encouraging to see NFL stars use their platforms to promote change and positivity. Sometimes, we can spend so much time discussing how well Jason Kelce anchors the offensive line that we can forget to mention those things. This is truly an honor that’s well deserved.
