Eagles can sign any of these free agents to push Jalen Hurts next season
Haven’t there been rumors linking the Eagles and Marcus Mariota before?
Following Week 13’s win, here’s a thought that probably crossed your mind, even if you didn’t spend too much time on it or express it to anyone else. What if we could somehow take Gardner Minshew’s arm talent and Jalen Hurts’ legs and create some super QB?
Truthfully, that’s hard to do. Those types of gifts don’t grow on trees, and it doesn’t feel like Philly’s chances of landing Aaron Rodgers, Deshaun Watson, or Russell Wilson, three guys that can run and throw, have skyrocketed.
Marcus Mariota should be available though. He’ll be among the best and most viable options if the Birds go fishing for a quarterback in free agency’s pool.
Over the course of his career, he’s appeared in 75 games with 63 starts (that includes five playoff games), and that’s resulted in what’s just under a 62-percent completion percentage, almost 14,000 passing yards, and 81 touchdowns. He’s also run for over 1,600 yards and 14 scores.
If the Eagles are in love with the idea of a dual-threat that’s been relatively healthy and has won games, this is a better option than some of the other notable targets that will be available next season. There’s Cam Newton (he’ll be available too), but he entered the league with question marks about his accuracy many moons ago, and things have only gotten worse as he’s aged and taken the abuse that he’s taken.
Geno Smith used to be able to run, but that ship has sailed. Joshua Dobbs can run (sometimes), but he can’t pass. Ben Roethlisberger can’t do either anymore. Are you getting the point yet? Franchise quarterbacks, like those of the dual-threat variety, don’t grow on trees, and sometimes, it’s even harder to find their replacements.
