Eagles can sign any of these free agents to push Jalen Hurts next season
Jacoby Brissett would add both talent and experience to the Eagles’ QB room.
Even if you despise some of the teams that he’s played on, it’s easy to be a fan of Jacoby Brissett. If you didn’t know anything about him and just looked at his numbers, you’d probably like a lot about what you saw, He’s crafted a touchdown-to-interception ratio that’s just over a two-to-one clip (36 career scores versus 17 picks). He’s added another 651 yards on 177 career attempts and 13 touchdowns with his legs.
The problem is this. He’s played for the New England Patriots, who already had Tom Brady on the roster. He then went to Indianapolis, and despite the fact that he earned a few starts in 2017 and 2019, he sat behind Philip Rivers and was only able to lead the team to an 11-19 mark when he was under center.
The 2021 season has led him to South Beach, where the Miami Dolphins have invested in Tua Tagovialoa. If Brissett wants to start, he’ll need to go elsewhere.
An arrangement between Brissett and the Philadelphia Eagles won’t help this young man if those are indeed his plans, but it’s beginning to look like his ceiling is being a career backup. So, in that regard, this could be mutually beneficial to both sides. The Eagles get an experienced backup that can step in and lead if need be, and Jacoby Brissett extends his shelf life. It’s a long shot, but it isn’t impossible.
