Eagles can sign any of these free agents to push Jalen Hurts next season
Wait! Is Jamies Winston the best option that the Eagles have?
If you think your emotions are all over the place while cheering for the Eagles, imagine what life must be like as a New Orleans Saints fan. In 2020, after beating what would wind up being the Super Bowl Champions twice in the regular season, the Saints played one of their sloppier games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the postseason.
They lost, and they watched the Bucs go on to hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Following Drew Brees’ retirement, the New Orleans elevated Jameis Winston to the starter’s chair during the offseason, signing him to a one-year deal worth $12 million on March 15th of 2021.
The Saints throttled the Green Bay Packers during the 2021 season’s opening weekend, but Winston would get hurt in Week 8, and after winning on Halloween, the entire month of November carried on, and we moved past Thanksgiving into December without another win by what should be a more successful Saints team.
Is Jameis Winston missed that much when he isn’t around? He remains one of the NFL’s enigmas. He was the NFL Draft’s first-overall selection in 2015, but the Bucs gave up on him. He’s so talented that he can throw 30 touchdowns in a season and simultaneously, at times, so erratic that he can also throw 30 picks during the same campaign.
Yes fans, that’s going to follow him forever.
Jameis Winston isn’t perfect. Still, he might be the best option that the Eagles have though, especially if they forego investing draft capital on a signal-caller and elect to go with a proven veteran in free agency to push Hurts instead. Don’t rule this one out. Based on the names that may hit the open market in free agency, Jameis might be the best of the bunch.
