4 former Philadelphia Eagles this team could really use right now
There are several former Eagles that could be helping this team right now.
The culture of a franchise or what that team’s atmosphere feels like when people walk in the building can determine a lot about that team’s success. In that respect, the NFL is no different than the careers you all have chosen or the jobs you’ve taken as stepping stones while you await your next opportunity. At some point, seemingly right after that Super Bowl win, both the culture and atmosphere of this Philadelphia Eagles franchise shifted.
Though the presumed dates of when this began differ from source to source, many agree that Howie Roseman becoming more power-hungry is part of the reason why. You can’t fire Jeffrey Lurie, but over the past few seasons, he’s earned a reputation for being a tad too meddlesome.
Maybe Howie winning that Pro Football Writers Association Executive of the Year Award after the 2017 season went to his head. Who knows?
Whatever the case, that’s reportedly why Brandon Staley ignored interview offers for the head coaching job. It’s presumably one of the reasons why free agents used to see Philly as a destination of choice but now eschew employment with the Birds to go elsewhere.
Things seem toxic, but when you look past that, you find other issues. This isn’t a team that’s seen as a real threat in the NFC, and bad roster-building appears to be one of the major reasons why. Guys haven’t been coached up well enough, bad contracts have prevented this team from being competitive in free agency. Don’t forget about the injuries.
The Birds have been relatively healthy this season, but as we move through the bye week and begin thinking about a potential playoff push, guys like Travis Fulgham are on our mind. Do you really expect us to believe that this guy can’t be better than Greg Ward, JJ Arcega-Whiteside, and Jalen Reagor?
Maybe you agree with that. Maybe you don’t, but here’s a list of four more former Eagles whose help this team could use right now.
