As another week of NFL action passes, everyone prepares for the next game on the schedule. Week 14 brought one of the toughest Sundays to endure as a Philadelphia Eagles fan during any regular season, one where there’s no game to watch. There was minimal reason to get down though. The was plenty of gridiron action to satisfy the sweet tooth.

Most games, whether they featured divisional rivals or two teams that represent different conferences, had some sort of significance in shaping what the postseason will look like.

Philadelphia saw their case strengthened by way of losses by the Washington Football Team, Chicago Bears, and Carolina Panthers. Wins by the Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, and San Francisco 49ers made the waters a little murkier.

Also on the minds of everyone in love with a team that’s currently on the outside and looking in is draft positioning. What might these teams do in the offseason to get better? Citizens of a midnight green nation have one eye on the Birds while the other shifts back and forth to the Indianapolis Colts, whether Carson Wentz is playing or not, and a Miami Dolphins team that won’t stop winning.

So as we, at the time of this story being written and published, await the final game of Week 14’s slate, a huge one in the NFC West between the Los Angeles Rams and the Arizona Cardinals, let’s take a gander at those first-round selections.

Here’s where the Eagles would select if the NFL Draft started in a few hours.

The tenth-overall selection (via Miami)

A 20-9 win in Week 13 over a New York Giants team that doesn’t seem to want to beat anyone but the Eagles (yes, that still stings) improved a suddenly surging Dolphins team to 6-7 on the NFL season. Like Philadelphia, Miami was idle in Week 14, but winning four straight games had them slotted at 12 when we closed Week 13.

By virtue of other events, that pick improved from 12 to the tenth-overall selection at Sunday’s close, but the bad news here is Miami is, more than likely, falling out of the top ten again. Their next two games are against the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints.

The eleventh-overall selection (Philly’s own draft selection)

By sitting idle and watching everything play out around them, the Eagles’ own selection improved from the 13th pick in the next NFL Draft to the 11th. As of right now, there appear to be no signs of tanking as the Birds have a realistic shot at the postseason and a stretch of three very winnable games coming up, a game versus Big Blue sandwiched between two games versus Washington.

The 21st pick (via Indianapolis)

If Carson Wentz starts (and finishes) the Colts’ next game versus the New England Patriots, by our calculations, he should mathematically wind up playing 75% of Indy’s offensive snaps during the 2021-2022 season.

If the season were to end after Week 14, losses by the Las Vegas Raiders, Buffalo Bills, and Cincinnati Bengals would place them in the AFC’s playoffs as a Wild Card and the sixth seed. Where they’d wind up picking next April obviously comes down to how they perform in the tournament, but currently, they’re scheduled to pick at the 21st-overall selection.
