For eight seasons, Seth Joyner terrorized the NFL as one of the leaders on a Philadelphia Eagles defense that made every opposing offense and its coordinator sick when they knew that they’d have to see what was then the kelly green on the schedule.

Since then, the Birds have enjoyed the leadership of guys like Joe Banner, Andy Reid, Chip Kelly, and Howie Roseman. None of them are particularly known for their expertise in fielding guys at the second level. It’s a sad fact that’s known by anyone who knows anything about this team.

Let’s talk about Davion Taylor for a second. He was the 103rd-overall selection by the Birds during Round 3 of the 2020 NFL Draft. We talked often about how fast he was. What we didn’t know was whether or not he could play football.

It’s not often that we use Davion Taylor and Seth’s names in the same sentence. Maybe one day we might. Joyner seems to have made the first move in an attempt to make that happen.

Seth Joyner says he can make one of the Eagles’ young LBs a star in ‘six months’.

These days, Seth spends quite a bit of his time attacking his new career with the same intensity that he attacked anyone who had the ball during his time on the gridiron.

He’s one of the hosts on Eagles Pregame Live and Eagles Postgame Live on NBC Sports Philadelphia. Recently, he hung out with Dan Sileo of JAKIB Media Sports, and he made the Eagles organization an offer that they may refuse but shouldn’t.

"If I (could have gotten) my hands on Mychal Kendricks for six months… I feel the same way about (Davion Taylor). If I can get my hands on him for six months, I can turn that guy into a perennial All-Pro."

We’ve heard guys make these types of brash statements before, but raise your hand if you’re among the number that doesn’t believe that Seth could actually make good on that promise. We didn’t think there’d be any takers on that one.

Joyner notched 875 total tackles, 37 sacks, 21 forced fumbles, 17 interceptions, and three defensive touchdowns during 120 regular-season games in an Eagles jersey. He even picked off three passes in five playoff games. There are some guys that played cornerback for Philadelphia that haven’t even picked off three passes in the postseason.

Taylor is going to have to play for a while to equal those numbers. He’s racked up 51 total tackles and two forced fumbles in 21 career games and is currently on the Eagles injured reserve. We’ve seen flashes of talent, but Joyner’s tutelage could truly make him a warrior.

Offers like these are the types young stars dream of. The dream can be a reality for Davion Taylor. All that he seemingly has to do is pick up the phone and reach out.
