Opeta likely gets the start for the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15.

Landon Dickerson landing on the COVID list likely means that Sua Opeta will make his first start of the 2021 season on Tuesday night against Washington. Dickerson has started 11 games straight. Familiarity will be lacking a bit and the offensive line will likely have to iron out the kinks early on.

Opeta should settle in as the game moves along. Last year, he made two starts. Both came against the Giants.

It wasn’t the best showing but he has had a full offseason since then. The hope is that he has made strides in year two and the people in the building seem to think that is the case. As Ed Kracz reported, Jason Kelce joked that Opeta’s stock was ‘higher than Tesla’ based on how well he was performing in one-on-ones.

There is a lot more to it than that as Kelce knows. He’ll have to pick up stunts and help on double teams in the run game. He’ll have to get to the second level in the run and prove that he can be an effective puller on pin-pull, GT counter bash, and power play calls.

The good news is that there seems to be confidence from the team that he can do a sufficient job. Even if it is just for one game, Opeta’s performance could go a long way in boosting the Birds’ playoff hopes. Jonathan Allen and Montez Sweat will both be back from the COVID list so that makes the job a little bit tougher.
