Eagles versus New York Giants: Bold predictions for NFL Week 16 game
Week 16 bold predictions for the Philadelphia Eagles defense
1. The Eagles’ defense registers four sacks and holds Giants to less than 250 total yards.
New York’s plan worked in Week 12. They hoped they’d play conservatively, try not to beat themselves, and hope the Birds help them out by turning the ball over. Put a checkmark in each of those boxes as an ugly performance by Philly resulted in a 13-7 Giants win.
Here’s the problem Big Blue has. Say what you want about Daniel Jones. New York’s best shot at winning was with him behind center, especially seeing as how he can make plays with his arm and legs.
Jones has been shot down for the remainder of the 2021 season. His backup, Jake Fromm, is a dropoff, and that’s saying a lot. Then again, if Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon goes the route of calling his usual passive game, Fromm, like every other QB the Eagles face will look like he’s more efficient than he is.
Philly’s defense is better than the Giants’ offense though. Expect four sacks and a performance where New York is held to less than 250 total yards.
2. Eagles linebackers force a turnover.
A ton of time has been dedicated to theories about deficiencies with the Eagles at the second level of their defense and how the organization puts zero stock in the linebacker position. T.J. Edwards and Alex Singleton heard all of that, and as Philadelphia continues to try and attempt to punch their ticket to the postseason, those guys will have to make plays.
So far, so good on that front. Expect big games from Edwards and Singleton and for one of them to force a turnover. The Eagles get their revenge in this one. Prediction: Eagles 31, Giants 13
