The Philadelphia Eagles were lucky to get their head coach, Nick Sirianni, back ahead of Week 16’s game versus the New York Giants game. Still, like each of the NFL’s 31 other franchises, the Birds’ challenges with COVID-19 haven’t quite reached their conclusion.

It’s been a taxing few weeks, both mentally and physically, and it’s only beginning. According to a team report released on the Monday following the team’s Week 16 win versus the New York Giants, three Birds are being added to Philadelphia’s Reserve/COVID-19 list.

Buckle up. We have much to discuss.

Here’s an update on the Eagles COVID-19 standings heading into Week 17.

According to a team report, Philadelphia has announced that they’re placing defensive end Derek Barnett, defensive end Tarron Jackson, and cornerback Andre Chachere on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

The team has also placed tight end Noah Togiai on the Practice Squad COVID-19 list. In terms of the guys on the active roster, as you’re probably aware, they’ll need consecutive positive tests rather rapidly if they expect to play in Week 17’s all-important divisional clash with the Washington Football Team.

If that doesn’t happen, players may need to be elevated from the scout team because Barnett and Jackson’s absence would mean that Philly walks into their next game with one defensive end: Josh Sweat.

Currently, there’s one other defensive end on the practice squad, Cameron Malveaux. He could be used as a COVID replacement. If not, we’ve been told that Milton Williams can move from defensive tackle to the defensive end position if need be. We also saw Fletcher Cox get some snaps there in Week 15.

There is one bright side to this, however. The news comes early in the week, so if we’re lucky, we could see any of these guys (or all of them) activated from the COVID-19 list by the week’s end. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope that’s what happens.
