Eagles legend Lane Johnson gets brutally honest about Pro Bowl snub
Football is a team game. We’ve all known that for as long as we’ve been watching the game. Some of us, though our careers ended in high school, have seen that first hand, so it stands to reason that, once you reach the NFL level, it’s necessary that you have guys like Lane Johnson in the locker room and on the field during game days.
If you read Inside The Iggles often, you’ve read this next statement once or twice, but when speaking of Lane in these terms, there are times when it must be stated again for emphasis.
Chip Kelly’s tenure as the Philadelphia Eagles head coach was, more often than not, a nightmare, but he got a couple of things right. He hit the bull’s eye with his first two selections in the 2013 NFL Draft.
The selection of Zach Ertz in Round 2 was a game-changer, and that came AFTER he knocked the ball out of the park by taking Lane fourth-overall in Round 1. The 2021-2022 season has been one to remember for both.
Zach was traded to the Arizona Cardinals on October 15th from the only team that he’s ever known. Johnson missed three games as he heroically dealt with anxiety issues and depression.
Individual accolades are a part of the deal too however, and even though, the last time we checked, we have yet to hear anyone call Lane Johnson selfish, we can all give him a pass for what he said on the Wednesday leading up to the Eagles’ Week 17 game versus the Washington Football Team.
Lane Johnson noticed that Pro Bowl snub if you’re wondering.
Perhaps the media should request speaking to Lane Johnson more often. Sure, we hear from him often, but going forward, we have to hear from him more. As is customary, several players spoke with the media on Wednesday. Lane closed things out.
He spoke about his relationship with Jason Kelce, the Eagles rushing attack, and how proud he is of Jordan Mailata, but if you’ve been wondering how he felt about what was an obvious Pro Bowl snub, you won’t have to read between the lines to figure out what his opinion is on the subject.
“I was (ticked)”. No friends. He didn’t say ‘ticked’, and we have absolutely no issues with his response.
The Philadelphia Eagles are on the verge of setting a franchise record for rushing yards. They’ve been dominant up front, yet Jason Kelce is the only Eagles offensive lineman represented on the NFL’s Pro Bowl roster.
Sure, Kelce is deserving, but so are Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson. Mailata was named as an alternate. Johnson didn’t even get that distinction. Perhaps we’re all watching different games here?
Johnson says he’s used it as motivation, and after everything that he’s been through, seeing him catch a touchdown pass in Week 16 has to be seen as one of the best Eagles stories of the most recent regular season. How many of those Pro Bowl linemen can say that they’ve done that?
Still, even with that being said, let’s get back to that other issue. What’s up with that snub? Maybe it’s time to recount the votes.
