Eagles versus Washington: Bold predictions for NFL Week 17 game
Week 17 bold predictions for the Philadelphia Eagles defense
We haven’t been able to stop talking about the Eagles’ defense, for good reasons and bad. They’ve frustrated us. They’ve impressed us. Now, it’s time to start putting everything together. Here are some bold predictions.
The Eagles hold Washington to a 3rd-down conversion percentage of less than 50% and less than 250 total yards.
Washington is aided in this one by having Taylor Heinicke. He was absent in Week 15, and he’s light years ahead of Garrett Gilbert in terms of development, but it looks like Jonathan Gannon, who’s being viewed as a potential 2022 head-coaching candidate, seems to be settling in.
Washington has some playmakers, Antonio Gibson and Terry McLaurin for instance, so there’s no expectation that Philadelphia’s defense can take plays off in this one. We don’t believe they will. Expect a smothering performance, especially in the second half.
The Eagles’ linebackers force a turnover for the second week in a row.
In Inside The Iggles’ Week 16 bold predictions, we correctly stated the Eagles’ linebacker corps would force a turnover. Now, Alex Singleton‘s pick-six has Rodney McLeod’s fingerprints all over it, but you get the idea.
The point is Philadelphia is getting tremendous effort from what’s seen as the position the organization pays the least amount of attention to. A forced fumble… An interception… We don’t care how they do it, but we’re expecting a turnover of some sort from Singleton, Genard Avery, or T.J. Edwards. Prediction: Eagles 34, Washington 17
