Eagles need to seriously consider throwing an Alabama reunion this offseason
In Week 1 of the 2021 NFL regular season, the Philadelphia Eagles traveled down to ‘the dirty’ in Atlanta for a football game versus the Falcons. They walked out with a 26-point, 32-6 victory. Some of the headlines after that one were about Jalen Hurts‘ performance, a down-field block by Jordan Mailata, and QB1’s jersey sales skyrocketing. None of us were talking about Calvin Ridley.
If anything, the guy that Birds fans might have been watching was a rookie tight end, Kyle Pitts, after having salivated over him during the draft process, Perhaps we should have given Ridley more burn because here we are, months later, and his name is one that you might start hearing in conjunction with the Birds as we inch towards the next offseason.
Might the rumors of the Eagles possibly thinking about using some of their draft capital to land the Falcons star in a trade be accurate? Currently, he’s signed through the 2022 offseason, so if Philly hopes to land him they’ll need to be creative. This isn’t someone that you can just sign.
The Eagles drafted former Oklahoma Sooners/Alabama Crimson Tide standout Jalen Hurts in Round 2 of the 2020 NFL Draft. In the second round of the most recent, they grabbed another member of The Tide, Landon Dickerson. That was 27 selections after they took a young wide receiver that he, no doubt, spent some time with during their time in the City of Tuscaloosa, DeVonta Smith.
You see where this is headed right? Cue the college highlights and any photos that you can find of these guys together. It’s time to start thinking about throwing an Alabama reunion party in Philadelphia.
Eagles Twitter seems to agree with the sentiment:
Does Calvin Ridley make sense for this Philadelphia Eagles offense?
Typically, in roster building, the general manager should often think of starting at the ball from a position standpoint and working his way out to the outer positions in the formation. This team needs offensive weapons too though. There’s also a chance that we’re nearing the end of JJ Arcega-Whiteside and Greg Ward’s runs in Eagles jerseys.
Quez Watkins is serviceable. John Hightower can’t get on the field. A move like this makes sense right?
We all hate those ‘(Player X) is headed to the Philadelphia Eagles’ rumors. Every disgruntled star or difference-maker nearing the end of his current deal always seems to find his name attached to a rumor involving the Birds, but this is one that makes sense.
Philadelphia will enter the 2022 offseason with something that they haven’t had in a while: draft capital AND money to spend. Calvin Ridley is a difference-maker. The Eagles desperately need a second option at wide receiver in this offense.
If this is a move that they can pull off, they absolutely need to do everything in their power to make this happen.
