Derek Barnett, defensive tackle

Welcome to the Derek Barnett portion of the list. Oh, come on! You knew it had to come right? You know the story well. Let’s just state it one more time for historical reference. The Philadelphia Eagles selected D.B. with the 14th-overall selection of the 2017 NFL Draft. Give a Minnesota Vikings fan a high-five for that when you see one.

Five years have flown by in a flash, or one might say that they’ve dragged on. It just depends on what your frame of reference is.

However, regardless of where you sit on that, here’s something we can agree on. We’ve never seen enough sustained success to warrant the Eagles’ decision to draft him, move on from guys like Chris Long to put the defense in a position to give him more snaps or exercise the fifth-year option that he had on his rookie deal.

Derek Barnett is, at best, a marginal player that will, at times, flash, but more often than not he feels like a liability, and whenever he’s on the field, you just expect that whatever can go wrong will go wrong.

We thought we’d be speaking of D.B. in a better light at this point of the season, or at least we hoped that we would. Instead, normally when he’s mentioned, we utter another phrase… “It’s always him!”…

We may be looking at his final days in an Eagles jersey. Don’t expect a hero’s send-off when he leaves.
