5 most disappointing Eagles at close of NFL regular season
Fletcher Cox, defensive tackle
A ten-year veteran, Fletcher Cox is a first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer and a shoo-in for the Eagles Hall of Fame. He’s a six-time Pro Bowler (2015–2020), a three-time Second-team All-Pro (2014, 2015, 2017), and in 2018, he was named a First-Team All-Pro. He’s also a member of the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team.
That has a lot to do with why his current salary is what it is. He’s in the area of about $23.8 million this season. The next highest-paid Eagle on the active roster? That honor goes to Lane Johnson who’s cashing in at about $12.7 million.
Now, ask yourself a serious question. For a moment, forget everything that Fletcher Cox HAS DONE. Just look at WHAT HE”S DONE THIS SEASON. Ask yourselves if that guy in the Number 91 jersey needs to be paid a salary north of $23 million. Ask yourselves if that guy deserves to be paid like the best player on this team.
Look at it this way. Jason Kelce is the seventh-highest player on this team. We won’t take that one any further. That isn’t to say anyone is less deserving of what he makes. You just need to think about that for a second.
The title fit for almost a decade. For much of the time we’ve watched the Eagles over these past few seasons, Fletcher Cox has been the best player on this team regardless of position. The Birds have gotten 35 tackles, 3.5 sacks, one fumble recovery (one that wound up resulting in a touchdown), and two forced fumbles for that investment.
If that doesn’t scream disappointment, what does?
