Even in a meaningless Philadelphia Eagles tilt, we can hand out game balls.

To find the Philadelphia Eagles‘ last tank job, you won’t have to work hard. One need only look back to last year’s regular-season finale.

The Birds ticked off the New York Giants and their fans by doing their best to ensure themselves the highest draft choice possible in Round 1 by lying down to the Washington Football Team in the second half.

That ended up with Philadelphia taking DeVonta Smith with the tenth-overall selection of the most recent selection meeting, so it’s hard to complain a ton. Still, that one brings up a discussion at times. The Birds’ performance in the 2021-2022 regular-season finale has been no different.

The tone is different. The Philadelphia Eagles already had a playoff spot locked up. but no self-respecting Birds fan wants to see their team lose to the Dallas Cowboys. Sure, Philly could have improved their seed with a win and a San Francisco 49ers loss, but that appeared to be an afterthought.

With that being said, yes, ladies and gentlemen, we can still hand out game balls in a blowout loss that the Eagles weren’t trying to win.
