The Bucs are lambs for an Eagles slaughter on New Year’s Eve.

After a couple of spirited discussions and one heated debate that almost led to some hurt feelings at the office, the decision was made to place the Eagles’ 21-3 beatdown of the Tampa Bay on the list ahead of a 31-9 masterpiece over the Buccaneers that came one year later.

There are a couple of key points that made this game special. First, when the Birds walked into this one, they hadn’t been the victors in any playoff game since 1995. Second, the fans were a part of the story as well.

Eagles legend/radio play-by-play announcer Merrill Reese stated that this was the loudest that he had ever heard the fans at Veteran’s Stadium for a playoff game. He would know. Perhaps you’ve heard. He’s seen an Eagles game or two in his day.

One week after this one wrapped, Philly had their measure taken by the hated New York Giants in the Divisional Round, but that doesn’t lessen how special this game was. This one remains in a special place in every Eagles fan’s heart as it not only helped birth a run by some very special teams that were led by Andy Reid. It’s also proof of how great a home-field advantage that The Vet provided.

Gosh, that place was a dump. We still miss it though.
