For many, when the Philadelphia Eagles introduced Jonathan Gannon as one of the assistants hired to Nick Sirianni‘s coaching staff, there were a few Google searches that took place. No one would revoke your NFL fanhood if you didn’t know who this guy was.

That doesn’t seem to be an issue that the rest of the league is having though. He was apparently on a few radars during last year’s offseason, and there was even some interest in his addition to Arthur Smith’s first staff in Atlanta with the Falcons before he put those rumors to bed by accepting the job he was offered in Philly by Sirianni.

According to reports, his buzz has intensified over the past calendar year.

Jonathan Gannon could be on his way to becoming the Texans’ head coach.

It may not take much to get Eagles fans to get over losing Jonathan Gannon after a single season in the role of being the team’s defensive coordinator. The feedback has been, shall we say, mixed (and that’s putting things nicely).

It’s been an up-and-down season, one in which the Birds have been given some decent feedback on what they’ve done on the defensive side of the ball. Let’s be honest though. Their better performances were against weaker offenses who were often led by backups or members of the game’s bottom-tier of quarterbacks.

The Houston Texans don’t seem to be phased by that. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano, he’s a favorite for their vacant head-coaching job.

A premium subscription is required to read this one, so we won’t share any quotes here, but after being named as one of the interviewees for both the Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikings head-coaching jobs, he appears to be someone that the Texans are finding themselves enamored with.

He seems to be on fire this offseason. Don’t be surprised if this leads to nothing and these teams go in different directions, but don’t be surprised if the Eagles are looking for their second defensive coordinator in as many seasons either.
