6. 50. Final. 44. 54

The Philadelphia Eagles improve but split their next two games.

After a dejecting loss to the Raiders, the Eagles needed a win, and they knew their season was all but over if they lost against the 0-7 Lions. This was a turnaround game for the Eagles as they decided to try out a new style of offense: the ground and pound.

Although Jalen Hurts only threw for 103 yards, he ran for 71 yards, and in place of an injured Miles Sanders, Boston Scott and Jordan Howard combined for 117 yards on the ground and four touchdowns. Overall, this was a nice performance put on by the Eagles, and it changed the mantra of a struggling team and proved Nick Sirianni does have promise as an NFL coach. Grade: A+

. . . . 24. 54. 27. 13

This game felt like it was played between two of the top teams in the league, even though neither of them was seen as contenders at this point of the season. It felt like the team that had the ball last would win. The Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Chargers traded knockout blows.

After Jalen Hurts threw a strike to Devonta Smith for the touchdown tie the game at 24-24, everyone looked up at a game clock that had too much time on it. L.A. used the remaining 5:30 to drive into position for a game-winning field goal attempt, one they connected on.

The Eagles’ offense played a good game, but Jonathan Gannon’s defense cost them again, and the Chargers got the last laugh in an entertaining game that looked like it might produce an upset victory. Grade: B-
