Sub-radar, mid-round linebackers Eagles should watch at Senior Bowl
Potential Eagles draft prospect Terrel Bernard, Baylor
Former Baylor Bears standout Terrel Bernard is very interesting. One, as is the case with every other Big 12 defensive star, jokes will be made about how he played his college football conference that doesn’t play defense. Second, he’s talented, but some have expressed concerns about some limitations that he may have as he enters the draft process.
For his career, he boasts 317 tackles, 16.5 sacks, three interceptions, seven pass breakups, and a defensive touchdown in 42 career games, but even though he’s about six-foot-one and 222 pounds, there are questions about his size for whatever reason and his ability to shed blocks, break anchors, or fill gaps. He needs a nice showing at the Senior Bowl and throughout the draft process.
Potential Eagles draft prospect Mike Rose, Iowa State
If people are having issues with Terrel Bernard’s size, they’re going to love Mike Rose who at six-foot-four and 250 pounds is three inches taller than Bernard and almost 30 pounds heavier. He’s also shown some versatility as he’s seen as a defensive end/linebacker hybrid. Still, even with all of that being said, teams don’t seem to value Rose highly ahead of the coming Senior Bowl.
Rose has been graded as high as being someone who can hear his name called at the end of the fourth round and as low as being someone who goes undrafted. He had a huge season in 2020 (99 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and five interceptions), but he took a perceived step backward in 2021 (73 tackles and three sacks).
He could use huge showings at the Senior Bowl, during the NFL Scouting Combine, and at his Pro Day. If that happens, we could be talking about him more in April.
