It’s normal to see the rosters, coaching staffs, and front offices of successful and/or Super Bowl-winning teams raided. That’s just a part of pro football’s business structure as we’ve seen with the Philadelphia Eagles throughout history.

The game has changed though. These days, guys who post losing records at the NCAA level become NFL head coaches, and teams who barely earn playoff berths are in danger of being pillaged as well.

Ever since the close of the Eagles season, we’ve seen Jonathan Gannon mentioned in connection with several head-coaching openings, and, not even a week ago, two of the Birds’ offensive assistants, passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo and quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson, have been linked to openings in other organizations as well.

So far that hasn’t led to the departure of anyone mentioned, but according to a report, Philadelphia will, indeed, lose a member of their scouting staff.

Philadelphia Eagles lose Ian Cunningham to Chicago Bears.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, one of the more respected men in NFL circles, Ian Cunningham, is leaving the Philadelphia Eagles’ nest to join the Chicago Bears as their new assistant general manager. Cunnigham spent nine years with the Baltimore Ravens before joining the Eagles as a director of college scouting in 2017. He served in that role for two seasons.

In 2019, Philadelphia promoted him to assistant director of player personnel. He served there for another two seasons before being elevated to the office of director of player personnel during the 2021 offseason.

The Carolina Panthers interviewed Cunnigham last offseason for their assistant general manager opening, so his name has been in team circles for a while. In his new role, he’ll now serve as the right-hand man for Ryan Poles. He was hired to become Chicago’s new general manager on January 25th.

It appears that the Eagles’ brass was spot on when they said they had several general managers in waiting on staff during the last offseason.
