Eagles star Darius Slay compares Jalen Hurts to Russell Wilson
When the Philadelphia Eagles drafted Jalen Hurts in Round 2 of the 2020 NFL Draft, there were a few eye-rolls and, shall we say, expressions of frustration on social media. No one could figure out what the organization, particularly vice president/general manager Howie Roseman was thinking.
Some believe Hurts’ selection was based on the fact that Jeffrey Lurie’s been dealing with the regret of missing on Russell Wilson and he saw gambling on Hurts as a way to remedy some of that disappointment.
With so many roster needs that seemed to be more pressing and with a man everyone believed to be the franchise quarterback for years to come recently signed to a big contract extension (Carson Wentz), there’s no denying that some of the frustration with Hurts’ selection was unavoidable but much has changed since then.
Wentz imploded in 2020. He was benched in favor of Hurts, and that began a chain of events that eventually led to the Eagles’ decision to trade Carson to the Indianapolis Colts and promote Jalen to the position of QB1. Just like that, a once-perceived questionable decision had the potential of becoming one of the better decisions this franchise has made recently. The jury is still out on whether Hurts has done enough to warrant his selection.
Darius Slay is another of those wise decisions that Philly has made recently, but his situation was a little different. He was added to be a difference-maker immediately.

Speaking of quarterbacks that Slay is familiar with, one of his former teammates, Matthew Stafford, a man he shared seven seasons with when both played for the Detroit Lions, is on his way to play in the Super Bowl. Here are some of Slay’s thoughts on his former signal-caller.
Eagles fans everywhere are hoping that the Birds get back to football’s biggest game sooner rather than later. Is Jalen Hurts the man to get them there? The debate will continue about that throughout the NFL’s offseason.
