Has anyone else noticed how much fun it is to talk about Jason Kelce? As strange as it may sound, it’s seemingly impossible to do so without smiling. You can poll any segment of Philadelphia Eagles fans living in the Delaware Valley. You can travel to the West Coast and ask anyone that you see wearing a Birds jersey or t-shirt there. You’re going to have a hard time finding anyone that doesn’t love the guy.

So, every time Jason Kelce wins, we all feel like we did too. In his speech at the Eagles victory parade following Super Bowl LII, he said everything we wanted to say. Whenever he takes the field to extend that streak of consecutive games started, we all feel like we had something to do with it.

Again, everyone loves this guy.

Jason Kelce announces that he’ll sit out of the next Pro Bowl on February 6th.

The story has been told thousands of times, and it gets better every time we hear it. A sixth-round draft choice, a guy that was taken in a spot where teams are normally just rolling the dice and hoping guys work out, has turned out to be one of the best players this team has ever drafted.

Jason Kelce is a legend. He’s loved in the same manner that Eagles fans love Brian Dawkins because of, one, who he is and, second, how he plays the game. With 11 NFL seasons in the books, he’s earned four First-Team All-Pro nods (2017–2019, 2021), and he’s been elected to five Pro Bowls, including the most recent (2014, 2016, 2019–2021), but he won’t be playing in the game on Sunday.

The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane was among the first with the report.

As McLane mentions, it has been a rough go for Kelce during the 2021-2022 NFL season. Sure, there’s that consecutive games started streak, but this year was physically demanding and tough to get through.

He left games early. He sat out of multiple practices to allow his body time to heal, but he didn’t miss a game. That’s who Jason Kelce is. That’s who we expect him to be, but the fact of the matter is this.

He may perform like he’s a machine, but he isn’t. He’s a human being like the rest of us, and Father Time catches up with everyone eventually.

Everyone’s waiting to hear his decision about whether he’ll return or not. Gosh, we hope he does. How much longer Jason Kelce plays is anyone’s guess. We just hope that he does so for as long as he can.
