Eagles who could follow Jonathan Gannon out of town (if he ever leaves)
There’s no reason for the Eagles to move Slay, but what if they did?
As strange or unbelievable as it may seem to state this or read it, it’s factual. Before having Jonathan Gannon as a defensive coordinator, Darius Slay hadn’t been named to the NFL’s Pro Bowl roster since his third straight nomination in 2019. That doubles as his seventh season in the NFL. Here’s why that’s important.
Even if we’re discussing someone as talented as Big Play Slay, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that he ages in the same fashion as the rest of us… sort of. None of us can or could have started at cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles and earned a Pro Bowl nod after turning 30 years young, but you understand the point.
Slay’s 32nd birthday will come on New Year’s Day next year, and as good as he is, you have to imagine the decline eventually. For now, he’s still one of the guys that give the Eagles the best chance to win. Moving forward, it’s fair to ask if the Birds might decide against giving him a big extension when his current deal ends.
We have a while before that happens. Still, if that isn’t in the cards, Slay may find a home wherever Gannon ends up. That is if Gannon leaves of course.
